Solvay at the CphI fair 2009 in Madrid:
Specialties for the human medicine and food industry
Hanover, August 2009. At the Cphl fair in Madrid four Solvay companies inform you on the spectrum of performance of the special product lines offered by them: Solvay Fluor GmbH with domicile in Hanover (Germany), Solvay Pharmaceuticals Marketing & Licensing AG from Allschwil (Switzerland), the Belgian Peptisyntha S.A. from Brussels and Solvay S.A. – Solution Unit Healthcare Inorganics from Angera (Italy) are represented this year at an international joint stand of the Solvay group in hall 5.
The bridge between the scientific research in the chemical industry and its application in the human medicine is built by Solvay Fluor GmbH. Highly pure fluorine specialties such as Solkane® 227 pharma and Solkane® 134a pharma are suited as ideal excipients für medical sprays which are used to medicate pulmonary and respiratory tract diseases. These products are medically compatible and transport the active ingredients in an optimal way. Besides the new Solkane formulations, the CF3 /CF2 specialties form an additional focal point at the CPhI. Thanks to their specific properties, the fluoroorganic compounds make it possible to use lower dosages of medicaments and agrochemicals. For example, they improve the solubility in fat and, by this, they ensure that the molecules can reach the cells easier. Thus a better bioavailability and higher stability result in a higher efficiency of active substances.
Solvay S.A. – Solution Unit Healthcare Inorganics with domicile in Angera, Italy, represents Solvay‘s chemical line and informs on the wide spectrum of inorganic specialties for the pharmaceutical industry. These include, among others, substances such as magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, hydrogen peroxide, calcium and magnesium peroxide and soda which assume leading positions in the world markets.
Solvay Pharmaceuticals Marketing & Licensing AG, Allschwil (Switzerland) represents the pharmaceutical line of the Solvay group. Having a market share of approx. 40 per cent, the Solvay group ranks among the globally leading manufacturers of lactulose which has been successfully used for more than four decades to medicate intestinal diseases (opstipations). In addition, Solvay uses the opportunity of the CPhI fair to present the versatile potential of lactulose for further fields of application, for example, to regulate the intestinal flora. By presenting the Solactis® product, Solvay offers a further new medically compatible substance which was tailored to the requirements of food industry.
Peptisyntha S.A., Solvay’s subsidiary specialized in the custom manufacturing of clinical and commercial peptides, complements the quartet at the CPhI fair.
With development and production sites located in Belgium and the USA, Peptisyntha is expert in solution phase and solid phase peptide synthesis, and recognized as a world leading company in this field. Its know-how in solution phase peptide synthesis enables Peptisyntha to optimize the number of process manufacturing steps, leading to cost effective production of peptides. Amongst other technical expertises, Peptisyntha also is a cGMP producer of protein-peptide conjugates, pegylated peptides and complex peptides with up to four disulfide bridges. At CPhI Peptisyntha presents its capabilities and expertises in process development, scale-up and cGMP production of peptides (synthesis, HPLC purification and lyophilization).
Solvay’s joint stand is in hall 5 (stand A06).
